BoomPop Miami Offsite: Communication and cohesion for a thriving 2024

We’re recapping our Q1 offsite in Miami. Under the warm Florida sun, we focused on communication, collaboration, and charting a course for an exceptional 2024.

Being a fully remote, fast-growing team, we recognize the importance of meeting in person to connect, build team culture, and recharge. For our first offsite in 2024, BoomPop took on Miami while diving into the theme of communication.

The offsite serves as a critical checkpoint to acknowledge achievements and set ambitious goals for the future, ensuring that the team remains focused and driven.

A synergistic blend of work and play

The week kicked off with a vibrant dinner at Mayami in Wynwood. This served as a warm welcome for four of our newest team members and an opportunity to foster connections across departments. Laughter and the pulsating rhythm of the city filled the air, setting the stage for a week of productive exchanges and shared experiences.

The first full day started in the office buzzing with a renewed energy. We gathered for a Kickoff Presentation led by leadership, charting our course for 2024 and outlining our goals with the company’s vision.

Coworking sessions were not only smooth but also surprisingly lively, leaving behind the usual glitches of virtual meetings. The face-to-face interactions brought a dynamic energy, sparking creative exchanges and solid team strategies. These elements combined to kick off a quarter that showcased the vibrant benefits of our in-person gatherings.

As the workday wrapped up, our beach picnic plans, foiled by the weather, found a new, exciting venue on the rooftop. It was a perfect scene switch - from crunching numbers to tossing Cornhole bags and stacking Jenga blocks, all under the glittering Miami skyline. The evening turned into a fun, relaxed mix of laughter and light-hearted competitions.

Communication: The cornerstone of success

BoomPop CEO, Healey Cypher, kicked off the next day with an insightful workshop on navigating the currents of effective communication. We split into small groups to transform theory into practice with lively discussions and engaging exercises.

Before the sun dipped below the horizon, we went on a breathtaking sunset yacht cruise along the Miami River, capped by a waterfront oasis dinner at Joia Beach. Event Specialist Nate Johnson captured the spirit of the activity, stating, "From seeing the great views of South Beach to the skylines of downtown Miami, it was an awesome way to see the city's sights. Jet Skiing was a fun surprise and was an unreal experience! The yacht cruise was one of my favorite parts of the trip."

This seamless blend of work and leisure solidified team bonds and provided a memorable experience for all.

Celebrating achievements and embracing the future

The week roared to a close with a celebratory ceremony, where the “Weekly Unicorn Award” was handed off to a team member who embodies our core values: show up with alacrity, fight for simplicity, run through walls, make every moment extraordinary, and always follow through. This isn’t just an award; it’s a way to show appreciation for one another and a reminder of the magical impact we can each have.

As we look ahead, Miami stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful planning, effective communication, and unwavering team spirit. Marketing Manager Victoria Kwon emphasized this message by saying, "The most valuable part of the offsite was meeting new faces and catching up with familiar ones. You realize it's not just about projects and tasks—it's about the people."
